Power(ful) Suits
The suit. Traditionally, a suit is a symbol of professionalism. Things have changed.
Women’s suits - are a symbol of empowerment and self expression with a strong side of ‘let’s get this done’ attitude! I love what women’s suits stand for - a message of feminism, ready to take on the day and for me - immediately feeling pulled together.
Why is women's suiting so trendy right now? A few reasons… Many of us are back to the office in some format, ready to ditch the sweats and feel polished again. The 70’s and 80’s are heavily influencing fashion right now - both are eras with strong suit based wardrobes.
Lastly, but most importantly, feminism is top of mind for so many. Women in suits inspire me to think about the position of women and ultimately, equality for all. Whenever I put on suiting, I immediately feel more polished and put together. An invisible coat of confidence is added, just like that!
Think that suits are only for the boardroom? Wrong.
Suits are no longer viewed as stuffy or for certain professions only. Anyone can wear a suit, anywhere. To work, for dinner, or to an event.
Let’s break it down -
The most popular items that make a dress pant suit are tailored pants and a blazer. Skirts and tailored vests (or sleeveless blazers) are also pieces of a suit. Between these four pieces, there is a plethora of versatility and opportunity to create unique looks.
What I recommend to look for in a suit is quality fabric, a comfortable fit and versatile styles. All of which, you can find at Cleo! Many Cleo suits are in a poly/span blend which means they are easy to care for and will be comfortable to wear, while looking chic. You’ll also find tweed blazers in the mix, giving a luxurious edge to the collection.
Next, you’ll want to make sure the style of the items works. Cleo has a variety of suiting pants from everyday slim-leg styles to fashionable wide trousers and kick-flare crops; you’ll find a pant that works best for you and your body.
Did you know that Cleo has Fit Innovations in their pants? Think slimming panels, comfort waist and even butt-lift technology for an additional value-add to your purchase!
I know you’ll find the Cleo blazers sit just at the right length. This season you’ll find some vests coming into the mix.
Do you fancy a skirt suit? Me too. Très chic! A skirt will add a feminine touch to your work wardrobe.
Currently, the hottest way to wear a suit is in head-to-toe colour. This is a bold, impactful statement sure to lift your (and others) spirits, with boss-lady energy. This season I encourage you to try on a suit in a colour - red, papaya, or french navy. These are bold, fun, and offer an opportunity to showcase your personality! If you aren’t fond of that much colour, neutral suits are just as stylish. From sandcastle to black and white, a neutral suit is an excellent investment.
When I think about women's suits, I think about what a great investment a suit can be in your wardrobe.
First thought - suits have longevity.
Check.
Next thought - suits can be worn in so many different ways, you really get your money's worth
Check.
And do the math with me, Cleo suits have the best value in the marketplace.
Take an $89.90 blazer + $69.90 pant. That’s approximately $160 investment. When you start to look around, I’m sure you’ll agree with me that the value is immense.
Next, let’s estimate that you wear the pant and blazer once a week. Over a six month timeframe, that means the price per wear on the pants is $2.70 and $3.50 on the blazer. (Tax not included in this estimate.) Many of us wear our pieces for longer than six months. If you shop at Cleo, you know as well as I do, that the quality is fantastic!
There are so many ways that you can apply a suit to your wardrobe. My recommendation is to think about what pieces you wear most - pants or skirt. Pick up either of those then find a blazer to match. If you want to build out even more, pick up a pant, skirt and blazer. This will allow for a really flexible rotation in your closet.
You’ll want to make sure you have easy layering tops available to quickly pull together your outfit for the day. I personally love a white tank or shirt under a suit blazer.
My favourite trendy look is to have a tonal look - so all colour or all neutral. Very modern! If you love print, try a printed top or blouse that has a touch of your suit colour in it, or maybe a black & white print to balance it out.
Here are some easy-wear combinations to keep in your back pocket:
-
blazer + pant/skirt
-
blazer + jean
-
blazer + chino
-
blazer + different colour pant/skirt (think colour + neutral or neutral + neutral)
-
blazer + dress
-
pant/skirt + shirt (add a vest)
-
pant/skirt + top
-
pant/skirt + layering tank + cardigan
How do you find the right pieces? I highly recommend that you go in and try them on. This is the best way to find an item that fits well and suits you.
Bonus, a sales associate can help pull it all together. If you aren’t near a store or are crunched for time, order online - just be sure to check the measurements page when picking a size.
If you are looking to step up your wardrobe or simply update with something new, try a suit. I guarantee, you’ll feel more confident and pulled together the moment you pull that blazer over your shoulders!
