There are moments in the life of a brand when everything changes. When the only way forward is to rebuild. For Ricki’s and Cleo, that moment came. And now, we’re proud to share some incredible news about where we go from here.
We’re thrilled to announce that Ricki’s and Cleo have officially been acquired by Putman Investments and are now operating under new ownership. This marks not only a fresh beginning, but a powerful one: both brands will remain 100% Canadian owned and operated.
It’s a new chapter for two beloved fashion brands with deep roots in this country — Ricki’s with over 85 years and Cleo with over 45 years of history — built on decades of style, connection, and community. This isn’t just a win for us. It’s a win for Canadian retail.
In recent years, we faced the most difficult chapter in our journey. Like many Canadian retailers, we experienced significant disruption —from the pandemic to shifting consumer behaviours and an unpredictable economy. Earlier this year, we entered CCAA protection in order to restructure and preserve the brands Canadian women love.
To some, that filing may have looked like failure. But to us, it was a promise. A decision to fight for our future — and for you.
Through every challenge, you stood with us. You kept shopping with us online and in-store. You shared kind words, posted messages of support, and reminded your communities that we were worth saving.
Putman Investments shares that belief in the power of Canadian retail, and in the incredible community that surrounds it. They saw in Ricki’s and Cleo not just a business, but a legacy and a customer base worth fighting for. Their ongoing investment is a testament to their commitment to strengthening and revitalizing Canadian retail from coast to coast.
Ricki’s and Cleo now join other iconic Canadian retailers under the Putman Investments umbrella, including Northern Reflections and Toys “R” Us Canada.
